So... My good friend, Jamylan is certain he looks exactly like Chief Keef. He even requested we address him as Chief Keef. Seems legit...
I wonder about a lot of things. A lot of things. All of the time. One that particularly haunts me is... why on Earth do my students, who I LOVE soooooo much, take so little pride in their education and most of all, in their self? We had an awards ceremony for the 7th and 8th grader today. I went into it feeling sick to my stomach, because of how I've seen how these "celebrations" of students' success is seen and reacted to in this building over the past 11 years. It. Makes. Me. Sad.
If I had one wish, one wish granted to ME, it wouldn't be for me directly. It would be that the kids I love and pray for all day every day, would value what their teachers work so hard to give them. That they would stop being so difficult to teach and accept the fact that it is OKAY to be smart. It's even OKAY to not understand something. It's OKAY to ask for help. Those who think they are too cool to believe all of this is normal, it is normal. You are the ones who have it wrong. You are the ones who need to change. You are the ones who are disappointing. You are the ones who need to stop holding GLA back. If you don't agree with our philosophy, you are the one that needs to change, not the rest of us.
To those of you who are proud of your accomplishments, I couldn't be prouder! You bring me such happiness and fulfillment in my job and my life. You are AMAZING!
Okay... So it was last week. I'm a bit late as usual. We had our first House Assembly today, and the House of Rispetto won!!! Yay! and Darn for the House of Ansvarig. They get a free dress day on Monday 10-28. The House of Iseloom gets to have a jean day next Friday for being so attentive during the assembly. 8th graders who attend the Bosse 8th Grade night, and get a Bosse staff member to sign their paper, can also wear jeans on Friday next week!
1st, 5th, and 8th periods,
Obviously I am out today. I need you to be on your best behavior for the sub. Remember, they don't know you, & your attitude toward them will reflect their attitude toward you! Be kind, and others will be kind to you. It's called Karma, Kids.
8th Graders- You will be watching the video I have a link to on
the Colonial America flipchart. It just needs to be clicked to view. You will need to check out the Table of Contents on the Colonial America unit tab. Create a new one. I need you to complete the three assignments that are on the agenda. These are all also in the new unit tab.
7th Graders- You will need to add to your Table of Contents. It is on the tab in Mesopotamia. Then, you will need to complete the "Writing Revolution" DYGI? and the Stanzas on the agenda are in the "We're in the Fertile Crescent" tab. You need to have ALL OF THIS COMPLETED!
Love ya tons!
OMG!!!!!! We are having THE. BEST. TIME!!!!!!!! Here are a few pics that I've taken. I thought I'd take more, but we just keep moving, moving!!!!
Just get yourselves together, children !!!!!
Oh just never mind!
The state has mandated (told us we had to) digital citizenship etiquette to be taught to all students who have been issued netbooks, or the like. So... Since I see everyone, I volunteered to fulfill GLA's requirement. It will be for a grade, but will also make our school compliant in this measure. In 7th grade, we will be discussing Cyberbullying and your digital foot
Now that we have everyone's favorite piece of technology (well... they are okay, more on that in a bit), we need to get down to business. Your warm ups will start on Friday. REMEMBER... 8th graders get from 7:55-8:05 or 10:55-11:05 to start the submission. 7th graders, you have from 7:55-8:07 or 1:10-1:22 to start the submission. I will take a grade daily!
Now, first call to business... I need employees. Desperately. So, yet again, you will be filling out applications for classroom jobs. I will give a brief explanation of each one, then you will click here to complete the application.
Also, you will need to check this blog on your class days, as all announcements will be here!
You KNOW this is driving Mrs. Perkins absolutely nuts!!!! It will be ready for company by the first day of school,
It's almost time for school to start! I'm freaking out! Mr. Dino and Mr. Esteban cleaned my nasty carpets (definitely no food this year!), and they know my tendency to rearrange 48 times at the beginning of the year, so my room is a wreck! It'll be okay. I'll be going in everyday from now on. Remember how it looked at the beginning of last year...so different from how it ended up.
As of now, there's no telling how it will turn out. I'll post pictures on this blog when I have it "done":)
Mr. Perkins and I took Meredith to target to get her 3rd grade school supplies. I LOVE back to school shopping! A lot! Well... I generally like ALL shopping, but this kind makes me particularly happy. I also was able to sneak in a "few" supplies into the buggy.
I hope everyone is ready to come back! We have LOTS of new faces, and I expect that you will make them feel welcome!
See you real soon!
Love to you, Mrs. P.
